A strong digital-nomad application connects the income rule to a readable evidence trail. This September 22, 2026 checklist is universal guidance; the authority's current checklist wins.
Universal proof pack
- Three to six months of bank statements, depending on the route.
- Credits highlighted and matched to employment contracts, client contracts, payslips, or invoices.
- Signed contracts showing remote work, duration, compensation, and the employer/client location.
- Tax returns or accountant letters where the authority asks for them.
Employee pack
Include an employment contract, employer letter confirming remote work from the destination, recent payslips, and matching bank credits. For Spain UGE, use stamped or e-signed statements where the filing instructions request them.
Freelancer pack
Use client contracts, invoices, business registration, payment processor records where relevant, and bank credits that reconcile to the contracts. Explain recurring retainers and currency conversions.
Savings and gaps
Savings can sometimes fill a documented gap, but they are usually not a substitute for the route's recurring income rule. Do not assume a large balance cures missing contracts or unexplained deposits.
Use this pack from the Portugal, Malta, Croatia, Spain, Greece, and Estonia income pages. Redact account numbers when sharing drafts.
